Tips

Captain Forever games test your piloting and engineering skills. Even the best pilot will struggle with a ship that doesn't fly straight, and even the best-built ship is no good without someone capable in the cockpit. CaptainForever.io is a mix of PvE and PvP. Drone ships, with the little red radar dish, are NPCs. These are an excellent source of modules since they're not very good pilots, however, you might find other players competing for the same parts. As with all ships, destroying their command module releases all their modules so you can build up your vessel. Players, on the other hand, are identified by a white logo on the command module. With the right crafting recipes, you can even change the logo to show or hide your intentions - perhaps showing a medical cross to suggest you'll help other players, or a skull to declare hostility. If you do destroy other players, however, you'll be branded a pirate, with a big red arrow pointing in your direction. Other players might have a view about that... Only a handful of modules spawn on drones, and there are many more you can build through crafting. To craft a new module, pick up a cluster that matches a crafting recipe and press C. At least one crafting recipe is described in the in-game help menu, to get you started. With crafting, you can build repair beams, nose cones, side boosters, massless girders, and tons of other stuff! Squads are another new addition to CaptainForever.io. If you and another player on the same server select the same squad name then you will be squadmates. This means you'll be able to find each other via the squad menu, you will respawn on each other's wingtips, and you'll even be able to view the game from their perspective! Every player is given an alias, which is the name other players will see as they fly around. The only ways to see a player's real name are either if their name is on the approved list or if you are in the same squad.

About

Rendered in neo-retro wireframe with a terminal aesthetic, Captain Forever games have a distinct technical vibe and have been a staple of school computer labs since the award-winning Flash release in 2009. Now, Captain Forever is back in the browser, rebuilt from the ground up as an io game, with dozens of additional modules, emergent human gameplay, and a crafting system.
